PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The new polished concrete flooring was installed within the Museum of Making in Derby, which has recently opened as part of a 10 year multi-million pound redevelopment programme. Telling the story of over 300 years of history of innovation and creativity based at the UNESCO world heritage site in the Derwent Valley Mills, it is regarded as the worlds first modern factory. The project housed in a former silk mill was awarded highly commended in the ‘Sustainable Project of the Year’ at the 2021 Construction News Awards.

The ground floor of the building was refurbished to reveal the original fabric of the building and create a large, light, open space. Polished concrete floors undertaken by Concrete Polishing UK also formed part of the flood mitigation measures. This became necessary when the building was flooded in October 2023 and whilst significant damage was caused to the equipment and doors, the floor remains intact.
